今回ベースにした「青海波」は、古代ペルシャで発祥。1400年以上遡る飛鳥時代にシルクロードを渡って日本に伝わってきたといわれます。源氏物語の中に「青海波」という雅楽を舞う光源氏の姿が描かれており、その衣装が「青海波」の名前に由来。無限に広がる波の文様は、未来永劫へと続く幸せと、人々の平安な暮らしへの願いが込められた縁起の良い柄として知られます。
The "Seigaiha (blue ocean waves)"used as the basis for this project originated in ancient Persia and is said to have been introduced to Japan through the Silk Road during the Asuka period, more than 1,400 years ago. In The Tale of Genji, Hikaru Genji is shown dancing the court music called "Seigaiha," and his costume is where the name "Seigaiha" comes from. The pattern of endless waves is known as an auspicious pattern that expresses the wish for everlasting happiness and a peaceful life for people.

 また「雷紋」は直線が次々と曲折していく稲妻のような幾何学模様で、中国では3000年以上前から青銅器や漆器、木彫、建築などに用いられてきました。万物や田畑を潤す雷雨を表す紋様は、日本でも豊作の象徴と考えられています。
The "Raimon (lightning pattern)" is a geometric pattern in which straight lines bend and turn one after another and has been used in China for more than 3,000 years on bronze ware, lacquerware, wood carvings, and architecture. The pattern, which represents a thunderstorm that drench all things and fields, is considered a symbol of a bountiful harvest in Japan.
